Hi Everyone,
Well, it has certainly been a busy month, and I thought that things would begin to slow down. Such is life.
I would like to thank Lyn Richardson for her excellent talk on the “Importance of finding your Niche”. It never ceases to amaze me that the number of times that I have seen people start up a business, because it’s something that they want to do, which is good, but they haven’t considered if that it’s something that there is a call for, or that the community needs/wants. Sadly, and especially in the current economic climate, passion is not enough if you want to survive. Finding yourself a niche is vital. So once again Thank you Lyn.
I am looking forward to next month’s talk from Judith Jackson, on “Setting up the Foundation for Your Finances” on Wednesday 18 March. Another really important part of your business longevity and again one that is often overlooked by many businesses both new - and old!
The depth and breadth of knowledge, that we have amongst our members never ceases to astound me. Not only that but everyone is happy to share their knowledge with other members so that we can all build bigger and better businesses. I am very proud to be the President of such an amazing and caring group.
On a slightly different tack, I attended the local Business Hub meeting, which is a bimonthly meeting for the local Council and all the other local business groups. It was an excellent meeting. Some of the key points are as follows:
· PMHC are working hard on the Broader Economic Development strategy, all submissions to be considered at the Feb Council meeting.
· Working with TAFE, to ensure that locally we are “Next Generation ready”, noting the excellent work being done by Newman’s college in this sphere.
· Plus, the work done by the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (REIP)
· Check out the Council newsletter for more information.
· Looking to consider whether they will bring back the program “Economic Gardeners – a very popular business development run in the past, or something similar.
· The popular Business Awards Night has been moved to the 13th June. It launches on 10th March and they will be running a FREE Award submissions workshop. More to follow….
It’s always interesting to see what is happening in the local area and the more often I go, the more I find it so very interesting.
Our next Coffee Connect will be on Thursday 12th March at the Port Macquarie Golf Club. Sadly, I won’t be able to attend as I will be working at the Lasiandra Festival in Wauchope. If you are free, well worth going a long to catch up with like-minded business owners.
Thank you.
Alison Carroll
President.
